Association Building Community (ABC is a 501c3 intentional, distributed community based in Berkeley, CA) is dedicated to the development of the "process arts" (see http://processarts.wagn.org/wagn/Process_Arts for a framing independent of this site), the field to which we believe (through deep listening, dialogue, and deliberation) many distinct approaches contribute. While many process arts are most often in use in a "business as usual" way (through advertising and corporate media, for instance) many of these contemporary, purposeful, culture-making practices with roots in psychology (Nonviolent Communication, ombudsmanship, group facilitation, psycho-therapies, organizational development, coaching, etc.) work or can work toward citizen-based education and co-creation such that conflict is done well rather than "as usual" and social justice (peace) is the result. This is the clearest way we have found to frame "the largest social movement in the history of humanity"(Paul Hawken).

To deliver "community building on purpose" through the process arts, an international peace organization called Aiki Extensions (AE) contracted with ABC through 2008 to provide me as AE's Executive Director. I originated the 'process arts' idea and publicly reserved (copyleft) its use to the commons. AE's programs deliver the process arts that directly aim to benefit vulnerable or marginalized children and families and their communities through various locally controlled and directed projects. Aiki Extensions most frequently introduces aikido, and thereafter related process arts (including dialogue and somatic methodologies), to the most disadvantaged children and adults in California, the favelas in Sao Paolo Brazil, and in Addis Abbaba and Awassa, Ethiopia. Though I am writing full time right now, I accepted an invitation to serve on the Board and heartily encourage your support of AE.

PeopleGreen

If you power down, use less,

and localize...

then you are "Green".

If you speak with compassion,

listen deeply,

build community on purpose,

and support others who do the same...

Then you are PeopleGreen

Healing our idea of conflict (usually something to be avoided) involves redefining peace as conflict done well. Learning to do conflict well is a martial art and requires a determined and rigorous approach to nonviolence.

A martial art called both Aikido and "The Art of Peace" is the only traditional martial discipline worldwide designed by its founder for just this purpose from philosophy through application.

Culturesmith

Process Arts sophistication leads
beyond the simple arising of culture

anywhere there are people

to culture being made as an artifact,

through corporate consilodation,
advertising campaigns, small groups of dedicated citizens, and similar.

A culturesmith engages the
Big Ideas Making Cultures  consciously

and works to build  system processes that are fully sustainable, i.e. PeopleGreen, don't take the easy way out, and realize today that tomorrow's resources were spent yesterday.
