Ways of working together to build community and the process arts in a structured way - as a volunteer or for remuneration.
This is the list of specific jobs needing somebody in the immediate future - like a job board at the community center.
To list your skills so people may contact you, please visit our community resources index.
You can read about both of these jobs by going to www.tikkun.org and clicking on the "Jobs" category in the left hand column, or you can read the material below. We are seeking an organizer for our Global Marshall Plan and we are also seeking an assistant editor of Tikkun magazine.
Build a national movement to support our Strategy of Generosity as the path to "homeland security" through our Global Marshall Plan. Full time plus plus and must work from office in Berkeley, Ca.
The Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP), an international, interfaith grassroots organization based in Berkeley, California, seeks a full-time organizer for our Global Marshall Plan campaign, an intensive effort to start a national conversation about generosity and open-heartedness as a route to homeland security.
Successful candidates will have organizing experience, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a ton of energy for social transformation work, and resilient idealism. You will need to be courageous and visionary enough to talk about generosity and love in political and union contexts where those words are often considered too "soft." A sense of humor and a thick skin are both big pluses!
Specific day-to-day duties will entail
This salaried position will require some evenings and weekends. The position will be based out of our Berkeley office. Salary commensurate with your experience.
Please read carefully all of the information on our website, www.spiritualprogressives.org as well as The Left Hand of God: Taking Our Country Back from the Religious Right by Rabbi Michael Lerner, and then send to pete@tikkun.org or fax to 510-644-1255 a truly self-revealing letter about yourself and your own process of political and spiritual development, the kind of organizing you've done in the past and what worked and what didn't, what speaks to you most in the NSP vision and what speaks to you least. Please indicate what draws you to want to do this kind of work, what questions you have about the Global Marshall Plan (read the Q&A about it on our website), how your skills fit our needs, and what concretely you would do to start building public awareness of the Global Marshall Plan and start getting organizational endorsements and political endorsements from city councils and the State Legislature and Congressional people. Send copy of your letter to RabbiLerner@Tikkun.org, Pete@Tikkun.org and Nichola@Tikkun.org
We seek an editor with excellent English language skills and who is familiar with the Siddur and Tanakh, and well-versed in the range of current intellectual issues that are central to public intellectual life both within the academy and in the journals and magazines of contemporary politics and culture, and who shares the NSP/Tikkun perspective as articulated at www.tikkun.org/core_vision, and in the editorials on Israel and on the Global Marshall Plan in the May/June 2008 issue of Tikkun (copies of which you can get by calling our office 510 644 1200).
Work includes recruiting authors (including new talented people in their twenties and thirties), editing, proofreading, production of the magazine, work with the printers, the distributors and finding and working with advertisers, plus advocacy for Tikkun and the Network of Spiritual Progressives, and much more. It also includes representing Tikkun and distributing leaflets and pamphlets that urge membership in Tikkun or the NEtwork of Spiritual Progressives (NSP) at events at least one night a week and one weekend a month attendance at conferences at which you promote TIKKUN and the NSP. This is a professional job, not an hourly job, and like most work in publishing, don't even begin to think you can count the hours you work, which will be way more than 40 hours per week. We need someone with strong capacity to communicate well, get along with others, deal with stressful work demands, and someone who has a pronounced and positive sense of humor and can be both utopian in ideology and realistic in time scheduling for the production process of the magazine.
